Few weeks ago, my friend’s mom came to visit in Atlanta, and she contacted few friends to go to dinner with her in Buford Highway.
I already mentioned Buford Highway in Canton House – Dim Sam candy shop post.
I always like to visit there; It is a treasure in the heart of Atlanta, where you can have any type of food, especially Asian food.
This time, we went to J’s Mini Hotpot Deluxe restaurant.
To be honest, when my friend sent us the link, I was skeptical about this Hotpot concept, but I am always ready to try new things, and if it’s in Buford Highway, so it is probably good.
Apparently, the place has been in existence for the last 14 years!
You can imagine my face when I heard that. It used to be a tiny place; like a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but they expanded and renovated the place and made it bigger and up to date.
Each dinner guest has his/her own station, with electric stove and dining tools.
The main idea is that you can make your own soup with the ingredients they provide you, including broth and protein of your choice.
I had the Herbal broth with chicken as protein.
My personal recommendation would be to take the combo and get two options of protein, if it is kind of meat or sea food.
While waiting for the broth to boil, you can go to the sauce bar and create your own sauce plate.
There is a list of recommendations depending on what you ordered, but you can take whatever you want.
When you have everything you need, you can start adding to your boiling broth vegetables, egg, chicken, and noodles. Allow it to cook for a few minutes, pour into a bowl and enjoy a satisfying meal.
Important note: you can bring your own drink.
What was so fun about the Hotpot experience is that you eat very slowly, and enjoying the cooking process in between.
For dessert, we moved next door to Mist and had Ice Cream.
Enjoy!
Hagar.
